Press Release
YottaYotta and DICE to Provide Global Data Sharing at SC06
GSX 3000 Delivers Transparent Wide Area Data Sharing across NASA Goddard and SC06 Exhibit Floor
SC06, TAMPA, FL, November 14, 2006 – YottaYotta, the High Performance Netstorage® Company, and the Data Intensive Computing Environment (DICE) program will provide a live demonstration of transparent wide area data sharing between NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland and the exhibit floor in Tampa, Florida during the annual SC06 conference of high performance computing, storage and analysis for customers with demanding data sharing, access and distribution requirements.
With servers, storage, and networking equipment provided by DICE vendor participants, the live demonstration will deploy the Sun StorageTek QFS shared file system, Sun StorageTek SAM-FS software, and YottaYotta’s GSX 3000 NetStorage Control Node to provide a distributed data center capable of offering coherent read and write access to a shared data image across real-world networks with wire distances of thousands of miles.
The DICE program is a new approach to investigating technology solutions. It addresses challenges associated with creation and use of large quantities of geographically dispersed data and provides a multi-agency environment aimed at reducing the time-to-solution for complex data intensive problems. DICE is founded by Aeronautical Systems Center Major Shared Resource Center, administered by the Advanced Virtual Engine Test Cell (AVETeC), and managed by the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). CSC has selected YottaYotta’s GSX 3000 to not only improve data accessibility, but to provide a platform to effectively manage distributed data and optimize global data sharing across U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy and NASA facilities.
“We are focused on identifying new hardware and software solutions that can enable multiple government agencies in different locations to share information in a secure and efficient manner,” said Roger Panton, DICE Executive Director. “DICE centers are producing massive amounts of data in solving complex interdisciplinary problems, which drives our requirement to identify global data sharing solutions that can reduce time-to-solution without the typical delays and interruptions associated with remote file transfer.”
“Due to the type, size, and volume of data that DICE centers generate, without an effective global data sharing solution, distributed users would experience limited access to data, excessive network traffic, and poor productivity,” said Jack Kurtz, Vice President of Business Development at YottaYotta. “The GSX 3000 will allow DICE users, each with varying demands on storage and network infrastructure to experience transparent read and write access, regardless of location. The primary benefits include improved operating efficiencies with reduced time-to-solution, increased utilization of heterogeneous compute and storage resources, and business continuity despite system failures or regional disasters.”

About YottaYotta
YottaYotta is setting the new enterprise standard for resilient, high-performance global data sharing and fully active business continuity. YottaYotta provides organizations with greater flexibility in the movement, protection, and utilization of vital business information and their related storage assets. The GSX 3000 NetStorage Control Node and YottaYotta’s suite of Global Block Services localize access to geographically distributed data, enabling organizations to leverage their entire heterogeneous storage infrastructure across multiple sites. The result is consolidated administration, optimization of global IT resources, and Continuity of Operations (COOP) despite storage, network, or site failures.
About AVETeC
The Advanced Virtual Engine Test Cell, Inc., (AVETeC) is a not-for-profit public benefit research organization, which aims to facilitate a dramatic reduction in the cost and time it takes to design, develop and test new turbine engines for commercial and military applications. Working together with industry, the Air Force, NASA, and academia, AVETeC is developing a world-class modeling and simulation capability to allow engineers to design, test and modify engines in a virtual setting, perfecting designs to the greatest extent possible before producing an actual prototype, resulting in a faster time-to-solution for drastically reduced cost.
