Because traditional data migration methods can require more than four months to commission and de-commission a single array, expediting the data migration process can translate into immediate savings. Traditional data migration methods, such as those that employ native operating system utilities, are complicated and often disruptive. Applications must typically be shut down for the duration of the data migration, resulting in unwanted downtime and the consumption of LAN resources. Array-based data migration tools often require identical storage resources at the source and target destination, prohibiting data mobility across multiple vendors’ arrays. While server-based solutions may provide support for multi-vendor storage devices, they often consume valuable host resources, require the installation of additional programs and/or host agents, and limit the functionality to a specific set of host platforms.

Migration
All or only selected storage volumes can be designated for online data migration. The GSX 3000 ensures data integrity and consistency prior to and immediately following the actual data migration, and the platform supports optional fail-back to the source site. Unlike alternate appliance-based solutions, because each GSX 3000-E has four 4x IB ports and sixteen FC ports, YottaYotta can perform online data migrations without back-end fabric connections, additional FC switches, or network hops.
