Powerful SAN Clustering Solutions

In addition to online data migration, storage virtualization, and providing and wide area mirroring (WAM), the GSX 3000 also has the capability to cluster multiple SAN islands together and extending applications that were designed for use within a site, across multiple sites. For example, our GSX 3000 can extend server virtualization solutions including VMware across multiple geographically distributed sites. By connecting your SAN islands together or SAN clustering through the GSX 3000, you can achieve all the following benefits:

  • Server and storage consolidation
  • Effective data sharing and load balancing clusters
  • Reduced time-to-solution
  • Migration of virtualized services across geography
  • Resolution of peak energy demand issues

For example, without YottaYotta server virtualization functionality including online virtual machine migration and virtual machine high availability is limited and confined to a single data center. Another example is the GSX 3000's capability to extend server clustering software and a Clustered File System from vendors like HP, IBM, and SGI across thousands of miles for server and storage consolidation, data sharing, load balancing, and reduced time to solution.

GSX 3000 and a Clustered File System

When used in conjunction with Clustered File Systems (CFS), YottaYotta's controller clustering (a cluster of GSX 3000 nodes) complement the CFS with a Fully Active, globally consistent data image. Each server in the multi-site CFS cluster accesses shared data with a local SCSI exchange via a local GSX 3000 node - as opposed to traversing the WAN. The GSX 3000 then interacts with other nodes in the multi-site GSX 3000 cluster in order to maintain global data consistency. A single CFS can be stretched across sites and complemented by the GSX 3000's geographic cache pool and Fully Active globally coherent storage.

As opposed to disparate islands of operations, when a CFS is extended across multiple sites with the GSX 3000, the result is a geographic SAN clustering and/or distributed NAS environment with a single application space across multiple centers - optimizing distributed IT resources while improving resiliency. Data can be remotely exported to sites through a central data archive providing server and storage consolidation, or mirrored across sites for resiliency, performance, and multi-site data sharing and load balancing.
