Load Balancing Clusters Across Geography

Due to its clustering of controllers and Fully Active operations, the GSX 3000 has the capability to complement and extend existing single-site applications across thousands of miles - providing increased resiliency, improved utilization of IT resources, and multi-site resource sharing. When used in conjunction with clustering software and clustered applications including server virtualization, clustered file systems, and databases, this enables a single application space to be deployed across multiple sites - providing server and storage consolidation, global data sharing, consolidated administration, and the capability of load balancing clusters across geography. Applications include Business Intelligence (high performance Analytics and Data Warehousing) and "follow-the-sun" operations, which can be performed across separate power grids to realize energy cost savings and enforce Green Computing initiatives.

YottaYotta, Clustering Software, and Business Continuity

The GSX 3000 can provide continuous data availability with a zero RTO and RPO in the event of a complete storage system failure, a node failure, or network failure. In addition to load balancing clusters, the GSX 3000's clustering can also complement host-based software by providing continuous data availability, business continuity, and continuity of operations. Even in the event of a complete site failure, the GSX 3000 can offer RTOs and RPOs within minutes. In this case, clustering software (e.g., a host-based cluster failover service such as Microsoft Cluster Server, HP ServiceGuard, Veritas Cluster Services) is initiated to failover the application from the failed site to a surviving site. This will result in a brief interruption in data access, however since the GSX 3000 provides a Fully Active data image at the surviving site, once servers have been successfully launched in at the surviving site, they may have immediate access to the active data image. In addition to clustered file systems and clustered databases, the GSX 3000 also enables new possibilities for applications like server virtualization by extending virtualized services seamlessly across geography. The migration process is identical to a local VMotion, which can be schedule and automated. In addition to providing "follow-the-sun" migration of virtual infrastructure, our controller clustering enables organizations to have the flexibility to implement planned re-location of virtualized services across data centers, including proactive evacuation of services prior to foreseen events such as brownouts, blackouts, or hurricanes.
