The GSX 3000 provides globally coherent Wide Area Mirroring (WAM) of data in order to enable continuous data availability, continuity of operations, and business continuity. Due to the GSX 3000’s software cache coherency, all sites to function as peers or “primary sites”, with full/read and write access to multi-site production volumes. This high availability system allows the GSX 3000 to provide continuous access to data both during a failure event and through the data recovery process.
Due to Fully Active operations, the GSX 3000 offers a high availability system that can provide a zero Recovery Time Objective and Recovery Point Objective in the event of a complete storage system failure, a node failure, or even a network failure. For example, in the event of a complete array failure, the GSX 3000 will provide transparent failover of active I/O from a failed site, to a surviving site – providing an RTO RPO of zero.
Even in the event of host failure or even a complete site failure, the GSX 3000 can offer RTO RPO within minutes. In the event of such failures, a host-based cluster failover service (e.g., Microsoft Cluster Server, HP ServiceGuard, Veritas Cluster Services) is initiated to failover the application from the failed site to the surviving site. This will result in a brief interruption in data access, however since the GSX 3000 provides a Fully Active data image at the surviving site, once servers have been successfully launched at the surviving site, they may have access to the active data image.
During asynchronous multi-site mirroring operations, YottaYotta provides Write Order Fidelity (WOF) ensuring continuous write-ordered consistent data copies across sites. Unlike conventional asynchronous data replication, YottaYotta allows volumes protected through WOF to be updated concurrently in two sites during normal production use.
For both synchronous and asynchronous mirroring, YottaYotta’s block-level locking and software cache coherency algorithms ensure that all sites can perform full I/O to coherent shared volumes across multiple sites. In all cases, the GSX 3000 invalidates stale data at all sites before it acknowledges a successful write update to the host. This way, hosts in all sites are guaranteed to interact with a globally consistent data image regardless of which data mirroring strategy is used – allowing Fully Active read and write operations across multiple sites for high availability and resource optimization.
