Migrating data can be one of the most costly ongoing needs of any organization. Regardless of whether the migration process is performed for data center migration planning or relocation, server and storage consolidations, or to commission and de-commission storage arrays, the capability to provide an effective solution and accelerate the process can a significant return on investment for customers. The GSX 3000 provides migration software for an automated, simplified solution approach, enabling an effective data migration strategy across a multi-vendor, multi-tiered storage environment.
A large ISP that chose our solution indicated that reduced complexity and recovered personnel time accounted for approximately 50% of the savings with the remainder of the savings resulting from the reduction in total time. Traditional methods can take up to four months to commission and de-commission a single data management storage array. Considering that some customers lease storage arrays over a 36-month period, expediting the process can translate into immediate savings by reducing the amount of idle time storage arrays remain on lease and our solution has demonstrated a 13-fold improvement in data migration and real-time data replication speed versus traditional data migration software.
The GSX 3000 provides a management offering that ensures a simplified approach to migrations. Supporting both a CLI and GUI, YottaYottas data management offering ensures migrations can be initiated, monitored remotely, and optionally scripted and automated with the YottaYotta UNITY Pilot Storage Management System.
As opposed to traditional real-time replication solutions, the GSX 3000 provides globally coherent Wide Area Mirroring (WAM) in order to enable continuous availability and load balancing. In addition, as opposed to traditional real-time data replication solutions, YottaYottas WAM can enable multi-site migrations with full read/write access across sites while applications remain online. For multi-site deployments, depending on network resources, distance between sites, and the amount to be migrated, the GSX 3000 can either provide an online migration similar to a single-site procedure, or provide a local mirror of the source data that is physically transported to the target destination, providing a simplified, network-based approach for data center migration planning, re-locations and storage consolidations across multi-site deployments.
