Need for Continuity of Operations Planning

The strategic importance of data, the cost of downtime, and recent government regulations and compliance initiatives have reinforced the importance of effective continuity of operations planning and a solid business continuity strategy. According to a study conducted by the Enterprise Strategy Group, users indicated that for the majority of applications, they could not tolerate more than four hours of downtime without material disruption to the business. However, according to a 2007 AT&T Business Continuity Study, 21% of large enterprises do not have a continuity of operations or business continuity plan and only 15% believe that their business continuity systems are sufficient. Traditional solutions for disaster recovery, business continuity, and continuity of operations lack flexibility and may impose architectural constraints on data centers, including the requirement for identical storage systems and multiple idle copies of data.

Effective Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity

As an appliance-based solution, the GSX 3000 supports Wide Area Mirroring (WAM) across multi-vendor, multi-site storage virtualization resources, increasing flexibility and avoiding vendor dependence. Additionally, the GSX 3000 ensures continuity of operations planning is successful by providing organizations with a cost-effective, high performance solution that delivers business continuity with significantly reduced recovery time and recovery point objectives during system failures, host failures, or site failures.

With traditional disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, most failure scenarios can result in hours of costly downtime and significant loss of user productivity. The GSX 3000, however, can enable continuous data availability with a zero recovery time and recovery point objective in the event of a complete storage system failure, node failure, or a network failure by providing a globally coherent shared mirror across multiple sites. As opposed to traditional disaster recovery, business continuity solutions, even in the event of a complete site failure, the GSX 3000 can provide continuity of operations with RTOs and RPOs measured in minutes, not hours.
