Today government agencies, the Fortune 500, and other multi-site organizations must find ways to leverage distributed IT resources for storage and server consolidation, load balancing, and resource sharing – while enabling a business continuity strategy despite network, storage, or even site failures. A cluster of GSX 3000 nodes complement the CFS with a Fully Active, globally consistent data image. Each server in the multi-site CFS or Clustered File System accesses shared data with a local SCSI exchange via a local GSX 3000 node – as opposed to traversing the WAN. The GSX 3000 then interacts with other nodes in the multi-site GSX 3000 cluster in order to maintain global data consistency. The GSX 3000 enables a single CFS to be stretched across multiple sites – complemented by the GSX 3000’s geographic cache pool and Fully Active globally coherent storage.
In fact, in a recent trial between two cities – with a single CFS extended across 2,900 miles – YottaYotta demonstrated the power of the GSX 3000 NetStorage Control Node. Data access times with and without YottaYotta during the live field trial were collected and when the NetStorage Control Node was deployed in the data path, performance for accessing remote data improved by more than 100 fold. In addition to improved performance, when deployed with a CFS, the GSX 3000 can help enable the business continuity plan.
When deployed with a CFS, the GSX 3000 provides continuous data availability, business continuity, and continuity of operations. The Clustered File System is able to enable both read and write I/O to shared data across geography. Unlike traditional remote data replication solutions, which provide a passive copy of the data at a remote site, the GSX 3000 offers a Fully Active, coherent copy at multiple locations. This enables the business continuity strategy and ensures data copies are operational – because they are used everyday. In the event of failures, the GSX 3000 provides transparent failover and fail-back operations capable of delivering RTOs and RPOs of zero.
